“Every time I watched videos of musicians playing the drums during my primary school days, I wanted to become a drummer. My protective mother said only men take to drums and that it will be tough for me to learn and excel in playing the instrument. But I never relented. It took five years for me to convince her to permit me to learn drums,” said Sutharsana, who will appear for the 6th examinations conducted by Trinity College of Music in June.
She joined The Drummer Zone in 2012 and started learning under the watchful eyes of tutor Saravanan Aroumont. “I will not say she matches the energy of men while playing the drums. I will say she outperforms men consistently. Another highlight is she grasps quickly and reproduces the rhythms, notes and beats in no time,” said Saravanan.
